New Entrants

At Tawa School our New Entrants begin school in Room 14.
Robyn Warden and Joe Gazzard-Steele are the teachers -

We run a reception based programme and children stay in Room 14 for approximately 1-2 terms.  During this time we transition from the pre school environment to more formal school learning.  We spend some of our day doing developmental, discovery activities and choosing our learning and then other parts of the day engaged in more formal early literacy and numeracy activities.  We also spend time learning the routines of school life.  When we feel the children are ready they then transfer into a Year 1/2 class within the Rainbow Team.

We are very fortunate to have an outdoor space where children can engage in learning such as water play, sand play, sports activities while still being accessible to the classroom.  This helps to make the transition from the early childhood setting easier.

Children in Room 14 will receive reading homework each day.  A reading book and Early Words folder will be sent home with your child,  for you to support their in class learning.  Please take time each evening to look at these and spend time sharing in your child's learning.  We also have a class blog which is regularly updated and we would love you to visit this to see what the children are up to and comment on and share in their learning.  Home and school relationships are key to positive transitions to school life.
